Though touted as the first hakka restaurant in Scarborough, Federick's is certainly not the best.
I was first introduced to Hakka-style Indian Chinese food in high school. For Friday meals, friends would often go to Lucky's, located at Lawrence and Scarborough Golf Club. I became very acquainted with vegetable pakora, Manchurian broccoli and Cantonese noodles. It was there I found my affinity for spicy foods.
And nothing else has measured up in terms of hakka deliciousness since.
But, I had heard that Federick's is legendarily good. So on this Wednesday night, Kangdi and I decided to give it a try.
Federick Delicious Crispy Bean Curd
It was crispy and it came with a tasty-ish salty, spicy sauce, but it was not delicious. The tofu had absolutely no flavour.
Vegetable Pakora
Definitely not as good as Lucky's--not as spicy and tasted more like a samosa.
Federick Chop Suey Vegetable with Crispy Noodles
I thought this dish was pretty delicious. There was a good mix of veggies and the noodles were very tasty.
Chili Chicken
Kangdi said that this had no flavour. Tastes like soy sauce, he described.
My plate of food.
This whole meal, plus a bottle of beer, cost $35.95. As a side note, Federick's doesn't accept any debit cards or any credit cards but Visa.
Because the food was quite blah... I'm going to give Federick's ** and a half/****
Pssst. It's Federick not Frederick :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI've also been saying it with the "r" so you have saved me from future embarrassment!
I hope you enjoy my blog minus the misspelling!
