Ooh goodness, it has been too long! I have been so busy. I apologize that I've neglected this little piece of the Internet. This semester I overloaded, which means instead of earning 2.5 credits, I'm working on 3 credits. On top of that, I'm volunteering with an organization called PTS and I'm helping out a kindergarten classroom on Thursday mornings.
Busy!
But anywho, I think you're probably looking at this because you want information about Cora's, so here goes:
Scarborough Has a Cora's!
Located at Milner and McCowan, the Scarborough Cora's feels a little bit like it's in the middle of nowhere. There's the 401 to the left, Scarborough Town Centre ahead, and busy streets to the right. But our Cora's is situated in a plaza that really feels lonely. Not to the mention, you might miss the green letters declaring the title of this delicious breakfast joint, because the restaurant front looks so small.
The two times I've frequented Cora's, I went on a Sunday around 11 a.m. Bad idea. The lines were extremely long and Cora's is not set up to accommodate a pack of hungry brunchers. In the end, though, we were led to a table in about 15 minutes.
There's an open kitchen, so you can see cooks cutting fruit and frying eggs. This is the only part of the Scarborough Cora's that seems warm and cozy. I'm not sure what it is, but this location feels kind of institutional, like a cafeteria. It's a large room, with just rows and rows of tables and booths. The ceiling looks like that of an office.
Sure, the walls are a cheery yellow with colourful interpretations of the Cora's menu. But, I'm not feeling the warm-fuzzies with the decor.
All that mumbo-jumbo aside... it's delicious (the food not the restaurant)!
Food
Kangdi's Meal:
My boyfriend ordered Cora's Special. For about $10, this meal includes two eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, potatoes, a thin pancakey thing, and fruit. Plus toast, of course. On all accounts, it was exactly what he wanted. Not too greasy, but greasy enough. Breakfast food not done wrong.
Clara's Meal:
I ordered a poached egg, with fruit and cottage cheese. I've never eaten a poached egg, or cottage cheese before, but I really enjoyed my meal. The egg was obviously runny, but from what I understand about poached eggs, I think it was exactly what it was supposed to be. The mountain of fruit was hard to finish, but it was delicious and fresh--except for the pineapple and melon, actually. They were looking a little old. I believe the price for this dish is around $12.
Free coffee refills were given pretty quickly and our food was delivered fairly fast.
Because I love Cora's and breakfast in general, I feel compelled to give *** and a half/****. (Maybe invest in the dining area a little more and make sure you have fresh fruit!)
What do you think?
The Details
According the Cora's website these are the hours:
Monday to Saturday: 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Sunday: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
It's in the plaza on the south-east corner of McCowan and Milner. The plaza is home to National Sport, Montana's and Winner's. Like I said earlier, it's a small storefront and so it's easy to miss. It's beside a Christian bookstore called "Faith."
